Ceramic Coating in Cairo: A Practical Guide for Egypt’s Climate
What ceramic coating really does and doesn’t do, what 9H means, why the polish underneath matters more than the bottle, and how to treat your car in the first days and beyond.

In this article
Cairo dust doesn't wait. Wash the car in the morning and by evening there is a fine layer on it; after a light shower it is covered in spots. Ceramic coating in Cairo won't stop the dust from landing on your car, but it changes how you deal with it: dirt clings far less, water beads and runs off, and washing takes much less time. This guide explains exactly what a coating does, what it doesn't, and why preparation is the most important part of the job.
What a ceramic coating is
A ceramic coating is a liquid applied to the paint that cures and bonds with it, forming a hard, glossy surface. It is very thin, nothing like the thickness of paint protection film, but it changes how the surface behaves: instead of holding on to water and dirt, the paint becomes slick and sheds them.
What you notice from the first day is a deep, wet-look gloss, richer colour and a surface that feels glass-smooth to the touch.
What 9H actually means
9H is the hardness rating of the coating itself once cured, the top grade on the pencil-hardness scale used for these coatings. It tells you the layer is hard and well bonded and stands up to everyday use.
It does not mean the car can no longer be scratched. 9H describes the coating, not the whole paint system, and it won't stop a flying stone or a key. Keep the number in proportion: a sign of a quality coating, not armour.
What ceramic coating does, and what it doesn't
What it does:
- Repels water: water gathers into beads and runs off the paint.
- Resists dirt: dust and mud struggle to grip the surface and come off easily when washed.
- Makes washing easier: less time, less effort and less friction, which on its own means fewer wash-induced swirls.
- Adds deep gloss: and keeps the paint looking glossy for longer.
What it doesn't do:
- It does not stop stone chips. That is PPF's job. If chips worry you, read PPF vs ceramic coating.
- It does not repair scratches. The polish before the coating removes light scratches; the coating preserves the result.
- It does not end washing. The car will still get dirty; it just cleans up faster.
Why paint prep matters more than the bottle
This is the part many people overlook. A coating is clear and bonds to the paint exactly as it is. If the paint has wash swirls and light scratches, the coating seals them in and adds gloss on top, which can make them more visible, not less.
That is why our ceramic service includes a two-step polish:
- Step one: correction, removing swirls and light scratches.
- Step two: refining the surface and bringing the gloss up fully before coating.
Rule of thumb: the value of a ceramic coating lies in the preparation underneath it, not the label on the bottle.

How we apply ceramic coating in Cairo
Our ceramic coating service takes about a day and runs like this:
- Deep wash and decontamination: a full hand wash, plus iron and tar removal.
- Two-step polish: correction, then refinement, as above.
- Two layers of ceramic on the paint: applied panel by panel.
- Ceramic for glass and wheels: included free. Coated glass sheds rain for a clearer view, and coated wheels are much easier to clean of brake dust.
- Inspection under studio lighting: before handover.
- A 3-year written warranty.

New car or used car?
Both work; the difference is the preparation. A brand-new car is the easiest moment to coat, because the paint is at its best and the coating protects it from day one. Even so, a new car can arrive with light swirls from transport or a quick pre-delivery wash, so it gets the same preparation.
Used cars benefit a great deal, and often show the bigger transformation, because the two-step polish brings back gloss lost to years of poor washing. Keep expectations realistic, though: polishing removes swirls and light scratches, while deeper scratches that go through the paint need repairing first. We tell you this honestly at inspection, before any work starts.
Mistakes that spoil the result
- Coating unpolished paint: the coating locks in the faults and makes them shine.
- Washing too early: before the coating has cured.
- Wiping off dry dust: that causes fine scratches, coating or not.
- Relying on a coating against stone chips: that is PPF's job, not ceramic's.
Curing and the first days
The coating needs time to cure fully, and the first days after collection matter most:
- Don't wash the car during the first days. We tell you the right waiting time at handover.
- Keep it away from water, rain and sprinklers where you can.
- If bird droppings or tree sap land on it, lift them off quickly and gently with water and a clean microfibre towel, without scrubbing.
- Park in the shade if you have the option.
A washing routine for Cairo's dust and sun
A coating makes washing easier, but technique still matters:
- Rinse the dust off first before any towel touches the paint.
- Use two buckets: one with shampoo, one for rinsing, so grit doesn't go back onto the paint.
- Use a pH-neutral shampoo and avoid harsh cleaners.
- Don't wash in direct sun; water dries too fast and leaves spots.
- Dry with a clean microfibre towel.
- Skip automatic brush car washes.
More detail is in our PPF and ceramic aftercare guide.
How long it lasts, and how to tell it's working
Our ceramic coating comes with a 3-year written warranty, and how it performs over time depends on how the car is washed and cared for. The easiest sign that it is working is water: after a wash or a shower, water forms tight beads and runs off the bonnet and doors. You will also notice dust rinses off with little effort and the surface feels smooth.
If water starts sitting flat on the paint instead of beading, the surface usually just needs a proper wash to remove the film of dirt on top. If it stays that way, bring the car in and we will take a look.
Start protecting your car
If your car is new, the New Car Package combines ceramic coating with heat-rejecting window film for less than booking each separately. Read about heat-rejecting window film, and if you want protection from stone chips as well, see our PPF guide.
We are a car protection studio in Cairo with two branches, in Maadi and Mokattam. Book your appointment or message us on WhatsApp at +20 110 491 3633.
Frequently asked questions
Does ceramic coating protect against scratches?
It reduces the fine swirls that come from washing, because dirt doesn’t cling and washing needs less friction. It does not stop stone chips or knocks; for that you need paint protection film.
What does 9H mean?
9H is the hardness rating of the cured coating itself. It shows the layer is hard and well bonded, but it does not mean the car can never be scratched.
How long should I wait before the first wash?
The coating needs its first days to cure, so don’t wash the car during that time and keep it away from water where possible. We tell you the right waiting time for your car at handover.
How long does it take, and what is the warranty?
About a day in the studio, including a deep wash, a two-step polish, two layers on the paint and free ceramic for the glass and wheels. It carries a 3-year written warranty.
Can I use an automatic car wash after ceramic coating?
It’s best to avoid brush car washes. Hand wash with two buckets and a pH-neutral shampoo, and dry with a clean microfibre towel out of direct sun.
