The protection is on and the car looks better than the day you bought it. Now the part that's in your hands begins. Good PPF and ceramic coating aftercare isn't complicated, but it does need the right habits — especially in Cairo, with strong sun, daily dust, and roadside washes that use the same towel on twenty cars. This guide covers the first days, how to wash without scratching, and what to avoid completely so the protection lasts.

PPF and ceramic coating aftercare: the first days

The days straight after installation matter most. The film is still settling onto the paint and the coating is still curing.

  • Don't wash the car for the first days. We'll tell you the exact period for your car at handover.
  • Avoid rain and dust where you can: if rain or a dust storm is forecast, a garage is the best place for the car.
  • Don't lower the windows for the first days if you had window film fitted at the same time.
  • Don't worry about slight haziness or small water pockets under the film at first — that's normal while it settles. If they're still there after the period we gave you, get in touch.
  • Leave the film edges alone — don't pick at them or press on them.

A safe hand-wash routine, step by step

Once the first days have passed, this is the routine we recommend:

  1. Choose the time and place: in the shade, with cool panels. Never in the midday Cairo sun — shampoo dries on the surface and leaves marks.
  2. Rinse first, with plenty of water, to lift dust and grit before anything touches the paint.
  3. Two buckets: one with water and a pH-neutral shampoo, one with clean water to rinse your wash mitt after every panel. The grit ends up in the rinse bucket instead of back on the car.
  4. Clean microfibre, working from top to bottom. Bumpers and lower panels go last because they're the dirtiest.
  5. Rinse thoroughly and don't let shampoo dry on the car.
  6. Dry with a large, soft microfibre towel, without pressing — or with a blower if you have one.

Note: on a ceramic coating, water beads off and dust struggles to stick, so washing is quicker. If the beading seems weaker than before, there's usually a film of dirt on top — a proper wash tends to bring it back.

What to avoid completely

Mistake Why it hurts Instead
Automatic brush washes Brushes carry grit and leave circular scratches Two-bucket hand wash
Harsh chemicals and strong cleaners Can affect the coating and the film surface A pH-neutral car shampoo
Pressure washer close to film edges High pressure can lift an edge Keep your distance; never aim at the edges
One towel for the whole car Grit from the lower panels ends up on the bonnet Several cloths; lower panels separately
Wiping dry dust with a dry cloth Like rubbing with fine sandpaper Rinse first, then wipe

Bird droppings and tree sap

Both damage almost any surface if they're left, especially under summer sun. The rule is simple: remove them quickly — the same day if you can.

  • Wet the spot and let it soften for a minute.
  • Wipe gently with a soft microfibre cloth, without scrubbing.
  • Never scrape with a fingernail or anything hard.
  • If your regular parking spot is under a tree that drops sap, find another one.

Dealing with dust between washes

Cairo dust doesn't wait for wash day. Between washes there'll be a layer on the car, and the mistake is wiping it off with a dry cloth every morning. If it's light, a rinse with water is enough. If you're in a hurry, leave it until you can wash properly. Protection makes dust easier to remove, but it can't stop a scratch you make yourself.

Watch out, too, for the daily wipe-down many cars get in garages and on the street. The intention is good, but that one cloth travels from car to car collecting grit, which is exactly what leaves the circular scratches you see in the sun. If someone looks after your car, give them clean microfibre cloths kept for your car only, and ask them to rinse rather than wipe dry.

Glass and wheels after ceramic coating

If you had ceramic coating with us, the glass and wheels were coated too. On the glass, water beads and runs off more easily — noticeable in rain and when cleaning. On the wheels, brake dust and grime come off more easily.

  • Wheels: use a soft brush or cloth kept for the wheels only, never the paint mitt, and avoid harsh wheel cleaners.
  • Glass: an ordinary glass cleaner and clean microfibre — no blades or sharp tools.
  • Wipers: replace old, hardened blades; a worn wiper drags grit across the glass.

Cairo sun and summer

The protection is made to cope with sun, but your habits still matter. Park in the shade or a garage when you can, especially in summer. Don't wash a car that's hot from the sun — let it cool first. And after a trip to the coast or long highway drives, wash the car when you get back to remove salt and insects before they bake onto the surface.

How self-healing PPF works with heat

One of the best things about PPF is that light scratches on its surface — such as circular wash marks — disappear with heat. Park in the sun for a while, or rinse with warm water, and the marks usually go. Be realistic, though: this is for light marks on the film's surface. A deep cut, or an impact that has torn the film, won't disappear on its own; if that happens, let us take a look.

When to visit the studio for a check

You don't need to come in all the time, but these are the moments when a studio visit is the right call:

  • You notice a lifted film edge, or a bubble that's still there after the settling period.
  • The car takes a knock on a protected panel.
  • The gloss looks dull even after a proper wash.
  • Before any polishing or paintwork elsewhere on a protected panel.

Keeping your written warranty valid

Every service we do comes with a written warranty: 10 years on PPF and 3 years on ceramic coating. With the certificate you receive care instructions, and the most important thing you can do to keep the warranty valid is follow them. Keep the certificate somewhere safe, and if you're unsure about a particular situation, ask us before you act.

Frequently asked questions

When can I wash my car after ceramic coating or PPF?

Not during the first days after installation. The right period depends on the service, and we tell you exactly when you collect the car.

Can I use an automatic car wash after protection?

Best not to. Brushes carry grit and leave circular scratches. A two-bucket hand wash with pH-neutral shampoo and microfibre is the safest option for both film and coating.

There are light scratches on my PPF — what should I do?

Light marks on the film surface disappear with heat, such as parking in the sun or rinsing with warm water. If a scratch is deep or the film is cut, bring the car in and we will look at it.

Will a pressure washer damage the film?

Used at a sensible distance, no. Just never aim it close and straight at the film edges, because high pressure can lift an edge.

How do I keep my protection warranty valid?

Follow the care instructions you receive with your written warranty certificate, and keep the certificate safe. If you are unsure about anything, ask us before you act.
